At the start of a massage session I begin with effleurage. Effleurage is a long continuous stroke of both hands. It is a good way to relax and prepare horse and muscles for massage. It is also a technique to assess muscle composition as well as areas that may need attention or to avoid; tight muscles, heat, lacerations, muscle spasms, pain, etc.

"I thought the massage sessions were most beneficial to the healing process of my mare" [from elbow fracture that never healed properly].
